Chicago Bears Extend Lance Briggs Through 2014
The Chicago Bears announced yesterday that they have signed outside linebacker Lance Briggs to a 1-year contract extension. That would let him play with the Bears through the 2014 season. The terms of the 1-year extension were undisclosed.
Here’s Phil Emery on the 1-year extension for Briggs; “We’re very excited for Lance and for the Bears. Lance has been a very valuable and productive member of our team; seven straight Pro Bowls is quite a record of success. This is a very positive step for our team in our efforts to winchampionships.”
Here’s Lance Briggs on the 1-year contract extension; “My dream is to retire a Bear. And I know that I will. I’m just excited. I’m so juiced that everything happened fast, and I can prepare for a championship year.”
Lance Briggs on the off-season moves; “It’s like a miracle, with what they’ve done.”
Lance Briggs on the 2012 team; “Would I call us the dream team? No. I would not. But we’re a championship caliber team.”
Lance Briggs on Matt Forte’s situation; “”He’s a grown man… I can’t come into his house… It’s his life and his career.” and he also said “his contract situation is different from Matt Forte.”
Lance Briggs agent Rosenhaus Sports on the Bears; “I hate the clichés. But it’s a double positive. For Lance, we respect the fact that the Bears did a deal, despite him having two years left. And they appreciate what Lance means to that organization.”. Drew Rosenhaus even said the linebacker market is terrible and the extra money Briggs just got is good.
Lance Briggs has only played for the Bears as he was drafted by them in 2003. The Bears re-signed him in 2008 and that was for 6 years/36 million. Since Briggs has played for the Bears, he has made 7 pro bowls and 3 years was named All Pro.
Lance Briggs contract was not up, but Phil Emery gave him a raise instead. Now it’s time for Emery to sit down with Forte and hammer down a contract.
The contract is good for both sides and now Lance Briggs should shut up and play football!
