According to multiple reports, the Chicago Bears have signed veteran offensive guard Chilo Rachal to a 1-year contract. Terms were undisclosed; however, there’s a good chance it was for the veteran minimum. Basically I assume that because the Bears don’t have cap space for a more hefty contract.
Chilo Rachal is the only signing the Bears have upgraded to the OL in which gives up a lot of sacks. However, the Bears are hoping Chris Williams and Gabe Carimi came back healthy. If they do, then it would seem the Bears made 3 moves to their OL. Both are on track for a healthy return and are practicing in the voluntary workout.
Rachal is still young as he’s only 26 years old. Rachal was a 2nd round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2008. Rachal is a big guard … he’s 6’5 and weighs 323 pounds.
Rachal could compete with Chris Spencer for the starting job. He will be on the file in 2012, no matter what. If that’s starting or coming off the bench.
I like the signing … it’s a low cost-high reward kind of deal. Phil Emery keeps impressing!
Other news and noted:
*The Bears had a visit with linebacker Rocky Mclntosh on Tuesday. The Bears have had workouts with other linebackers on Tuesday too … Bryan Kehl and Zack Diles. More linebackers could have been workout too, but were not mentioned. Both of those were reported by ESPNChicago.com
