Calvin Johnson Is Cover Athlete For Madden 13
Wednesday afternoon was the announcement that we are all waiting for. The Madden 13 cover was unveiled in New York and Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson was named the cover athlete. He defeated Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in the finals.
In a league full of great wideouts, Johnson is by far the best. Megatron is a nightmare for opposing defenses and he makes the Lions offense go. When you have a guy like Johnson who demands a double team, it opens things up for the rest of the team. He was a big reason in why the Lions took that next step last season and made the playoffs.
This is a big honor for Johnson, but he needs to avoid the Madden Curse. It has claimed many athletes, which makes it odd to see that people still want the cover. If you want your career to go in the tank, be on the cover of Madden. The first person to survive the curse with their career intact will be the first. It is that prevalent. It makes no sense, but landing on that cover will make sure that your career will never be the same.
I hope Johnson is able to break the curse. Megatron is one of the most fun players to watch in the entire league. He has some amazing games against top competition. The last thing we need is the curse to make him blow out a knee or something. If he keeps his play up, he will keep the Lions in playoff contention year after year.
