According to the report from the Pioneer Press, “King was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly sending 22-year-old Andrew Hayek to a hospital with a fractured skull and nose and possible brain injury after allegedly assaulting the Coon Rapids man outside a party in Oak Grove.”
Charges against King are still pending as of Tuesday, and Assistant Anoka County attorney Paul Young made a comment on the investigation.
“In any case where a person is arrested, the clock starts ticking,” Young said. “We are still trying to make sure we have all the facts and understand them well to make a good charging decision.”
Hayek apparently was making fun of King for looking like a specific celebrity. King took exception to this, followed the guy out to his car, and proceeded to strike him in the head. Hayek got into his car, and then King allegedly pulled him back out to hit him a few more times.
King’s attorney Lee Wolfgram implied that racism may have been a factor in the alleged incident.
“Mr. King has no history of violent behavior and, in fact, showed great restraint in attempting to calm a situation after an offensive racial remark was directed at him.”
It’s always unfortunate to see something like this to allegedly happen, not only for the victim, but for the football franchise as well. It’s just a bad situaion all around.
Thankfully, Andrew Hayek has been released from the hospital, and it sounds like he will recover.
As for Mr. King, if the allegations turn out to be true, I hope he pays his full debt to society, before he’s ever given a chance to step on any type of football field again.
