How Much Will the Early Draft picks help?
How much of an impact can Reuben Randle and David Wilson have on the offense? Well how much can you count on rookies to help an offense? Being a rookie is a tricky thing in the NFL, though wide receiver and running back are two of the easier positions to make an impact on quickly.
The guy between the two that I would pick to have the most impact is Wilson. Ahmad Bradshaw gets hurt quite a bit as we all know. Andre Brown is suspended for the first four games due to PED’s. DJ Ware and Da’ Rel Scott are the other options at running back. Make no mistake, Wilson will be needed probably quite a bit as the season rolls on. He is a power runner but he won’t be the power runner that Brandon Jacobs was at his apex. Wilson will have to improve on his receiving skills as well as his blitz pickup to really have an impact but make no mistake, barring injury he will be number two on the depth chart.
Reuben Randle will have a harder time getting playing time. Yes the Giants lost Mario Manningham in free agency. Yes they will need a new third reciever. However, there are a lot of guys that Randle will have to compete with. The early favorite is probably Dominik Hixon who is coming back off a second ACL surgery in two years. He is a veteran and has rapport with Eli Manning. We have all been waiting for Ramses Barden. Maybe this will be the year he finally gets some playing time and gets into games? Jerrel Jernigan was the third round pick this past season and he will get some time in as well throughout next season. This will be the first time that Randle has had a good quarterback to throw the ball to him so it will be interesting for him to see how he handles that.
