With the recent signing of Vince Young the Buffalo Bills have added another play making option to their offensive group. While as of right now it looks like Young will mostly be in a backup role, other players and management alike are excited with the possibilities he brings to the table.
“He’s done some great things,” head coach Chan Gailey said on the quarterback. ”(Buddy Nix (the team’s GM)) thought that was a great guy for us to bring in because we’ve talked all along about wanting to continually try to bring in guys who can compete for jobs. And he can compete for a job. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Young will be able to compete for a starting job with the current quarterbacks on the roster, and bring in a strong resume with him into camp. Young was not only able to win a national title in his final college game at Texas vs. USC in one of the greatest games in college football history, he was also able to earn the NFL Rookie of the Year award for the Tennessee Titans as well as win quite a few games under center for Tennessee.
Outside of just a resume, Young has the tools to match.
“He’s got a great arm. When he worked out here, he threw it very well,” Gailey added. “Everybody knows his mobility. He brings you that, and he’s won football games in the NFL. That’s another positive.”
“He’s another playmaker for us and they’ll find ways to get him in there to compete. He’s another good signing for us so we’ll see what happens,” said running back Fred Jackson. “I’m sure he can still play. He’s a playmaker and made plays all the time when he had the opportunity.”
While Jackson did make sure to clearly state that he knows Ryan Fitzpatrick is still the team’s starter, and he’s ready to go into battle with Fitz, it is nice to see him so excited by the move.
