Osi Umenyiora Will Buy Lawrence Taylor’s SB Ring If He Gets 1M Twitter Followers

News broke last week that former New York Giants LB Lawrence Taylor is selling his Super Bowl XXV ring and that he is asking for around $75-100 thousand for it in the auction.

Well, one current Giants defensive star is trying to make sure that LT will not actually have to part ways with the piece of memorabilia but still get the money he needs.

Osi Umenyiora just joined Twitter and tweeted out the other day that if he can reach 1 million followers he will buy the ring and give it back to Taylor. Here are his original Tweets:

It’s a very noble offer for Umenyiora to support LT and try to make sure he can keep the ring that he earned but there is one tiny problem.

Umenyiora is currently at 35,906 followers and that is a far stretch from 1 million. Due to that fact that the auction deadline is 10pm tonight, he has dropped the number needed to buy back the ring down to 500,000 as of this morning.

Will it work? It’s tough to say but if he can get retweeted by the right people then hey, anything is possible. I’m looking at you Lady Gaga, Ashton Kutcher and Justin Beiber.

It’s still sad to see former players like LT struggle in their post playing days and have to give up something they worked so hard for. Even though they may not wear the ring much, or at all, it is still something they can take pride in.

Hopefully within the next eight hours or so the word can spread around enough so that Osi can buy the ring and give it back to one of the most physical linebackers of all time in Taylor. If not, then some lucky fan will be able to replace the weight left from their wallet to their finger and sport Super Bowl XXV champion on their hand.
