Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver took home another championship last night, this time, however, it was on television and not the gridiron. Driver and partner Peta Murgatroyd won the title on ABC’s popular primetime dancing show, Dancing With The Stars.
Other football players have made an appearance on the show in the past, including Dallas Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith who won a DWTS title, and San Francisco 49ers star Jerry Rice, who finished second in season two.
When given the chance to describe how he felt after winning the DWTS “title”, Donald Driver compared his feeling to how he felt after winning a Super Bowl:
It took me 13 years to win a Super Bowl. But it only took me one season to win a mirror ball. I’ve been watching the show for a long time and now I know what J.R. felt last year. That is truly something special. I feel the same way. Right now I’m on cloud nine.
Well, okay then.
I just don’t see how becoming a champion in one of the sporting world’s biggest competitions compares to winning a dancing show on ABC.
I’ll reserve too much judgement though. I suppose a title of any type when you’ve put the work in to earn it creates its own rewards.
It’s all a matter of perspective.
Regardless, congrats to Donald Driver, as he becomes the most recent in a long-line of NFL winners who have taken their athletic talents to prime-time and come out on top.
DWTS has found a little gold mine here with these guys and you have to figure they’ll milk it for as long as time, ratings, and popularity will allow.
