It’s no secret that Osi Umenyiora and the New York Giants are at a contract impasse. They may have gotten to a point where the relationship is too far gone because of everything in the past between Osi and general manager Jerry Reese. Now his teammates are speaking out and they are all in favor of Osi.
Antrel Rolle was on SiriusXM NFL Radio today and said he wants Osi back. Via Adam Schein’s twitter:
“Rolle on OSI: “My concern with Osi is one thing only. I hope he comes back. We need him. We are very good w/out him, outstanding with him.”
Matthias Kiwanuka also spoke out for Osi saying that Osi had outperformed his contract. Osi is set to make $4 million in the final year of his contract. In comparison, Trent Cole, who has made the same amount of pro bowls as Osi got a four year extension worth over $48 million which could go to over $53 million this past March.
I still can’t see Osi being on the team longer than this season. The fact that the Giants are so far up against the cap and with Jason Pierre-Paul needing a new deal as well guys on the offensive side of the ball, sometimes you need to let people go. If Osi is willing to play out his contract, have a ridiculous year and get a monster contract, whether its with the Giants or another team, he may need to do that. No team is going to want to trade for a malcontent who hates his contract. The ball in some ways is in Osi’s court.
