Ed Reed a No Show For First Day of Baltimore Ravens Minicamp

By Dan Parzych

Other than the status of Terrell Suggs, one of the biggest questions for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason has been whether or not Ed Reed will retire or return to the team for his 12 season. If Tuesday is any indication of what to expect from Reed, the Ravens may need to consider a backup plan at safety for the 2012 season.

Reed was missing in action from the team’s first day of mandatory minicamp–leaving many to believe that the potential future Hall of Famer is leaning towards retirement considering he already chose to skip voluntary workouts with teammates earlier this offseason.

Despite his age, it’s no secret Reed would still be a key factor for Baltimore’s defense if he were to return for an 11th NFL season. Let’s not forget how dominant Reed was two years ago when he stil managed to lead the league with eight interceptions after missing the first six games of the 2010 season.

Everybody knows how passionate Reed is about playing football and he’s been pondering retirement for a few years now–so it’s obvious he’s having some difficulty when it comes to giving up the game. Considering how close Baltimore has been over the last couple of years when it comes to reaching the Super Bowl, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Reed at least gave it one more shot to help lead his team to the promised land–even if he did miss the first day of mandatory minicamp.
