Everyone seems to have an opinion on what happened between the New York Giants and Osi Umenyiora. I’ve weighed in on it in previous posts. My colleagues on this site have done the same. Teammates of his have as well. Now its Michael Strahan’s turn. Strahan in an interview with the New York Post said the Giants are flat out robbing his former teammate.
Strahan had this to say on Monday:
“If it were me, I would have sat at home and I wouldn’t have played,’’ Strahan said. “That’s just me. I’ve threatened to do that in my time and I ended up getting what I wanted. Osi’s a different mindset than me. I’m probably a little more, ‘I don’t care what people think.’
“For him it works out, he’s going to be fine, he’s going to play well. If he played well under the previous situations of being unhappy to being somewhat happy now, I’m sure he’ll do great.
Strahan did hold out once upon time. Back in 2007 there was some question as to whether or not he was even going to play. He missed basically all of training camp that year, but came back and we all know what happened after that.
I’m sure that Osi is appreciative of his former teammate speaking up for him, however at a time when everything has quieted down and Osi seems happy with his deal, you have to question the timing of Strahan coming out and saying things like this. Osi will probably have a great season coming up. Players who are looking for their next payday, no matter the sport always end up playing a little bit better. It’s just the timing of this you have to wonder about.
