Okay, so, either Robert Griffin III isn’t interested in watching Prince Fielder rock a million balls in the stands during Monday night’s MLB Home Run Derby or he’s just overly excited for football.
RG3 logged into twitter late Monday night on a mission – to bond with his teammates and make an indirect statement. That statement I believe Robert is trying to make, but hasn’t outright said it is, he’s ready. For the first time since the Washington Redskins selected Robert 2nd overall, the excitement seems to be ozzing out of the 2012 Heisman trophy winner’s pores. Not that he wasn’t already excited… but after being drafted April 26th, it’s been a whirlwind for him. He spent the month of June working hard at the Redskins’ facility in Ashburn, VA, and was able to build a relationship with his teammates. Last week, Robert invited a few of his receivers to Waco, Texas and was able to not only workout, but build a comradery with them. Now, with less than a week remaining before the Redskins’ rookie class reports back to Ashburn, RG3 is all-the-way turned up and is pouring the excitement on his teammates.
It all began with this tweet: [blackbirdpie id="222478006294290434"]
Then it manifested into this: [blackbirdpie id="222481175195811842"]
Robert went on to asking several of his teammates, including – Ryan Kerrigan, Pierre Garcon, Tim Hightower, Anthony Armstrong, Lorenzo Alexander, Jarvis Jenkins, Niles Paul, and Terrance Austin an interesting question: “Why do you grind? Why do you fight to get back? #KnowYourWhy
He answered first: [blackbirdpie id="222493231399698432"]
Then poured in the responses:
Robert responded to Anthony Armstrong saying, “Because I have guys like you to sacrifice for.”
Robert responded to Garcon saying, “Well…they say WE can’t win. So let’s go WIN!!!!”
Robert sent a response to his fellow rookie, Richard Crawford letting him know that they’re in this together.
What Robert Griffin III’s doing is equivalent to what Justin Beiber does to teenage girls around the world. Well, maybe not – but you get the point. There’s a saying that goes, “you can’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been.” Robert is forcing his teammates to dig deep and figure out their “why.”
Myself personally, I wake up everyday driven to take another step closer to fulfilling the plans God has for me.
For the Washington Redskins, their “why” has been an unanswered question for years. Why even bother when you enter every season with a question mark at the quarterback position? The town is pumped, the team is pumped, and now there’s something to hang your hat on and believe in. Why? Because there’s a new sheriff in town.
