Drew Brees Wins Fourth ESPY Of His Career
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees won the fourth ESPY of his career at the 2012 ESPY’s. Brees won the ESPY for the “Best Record-Breaking Performance”. After Brees shattered Dan Marino’s passing record with 5,476 yards last season the award was his to wins. Brees had the best season of his 12-year career and helped the Saints to a 13-3 record. Brees was in high spirits at the ESPY’s despite still not having a new contract with the Saints. Brees attended the event with his wife Brittany, who was showing off her baby bump of their third child, and fellow Saints’ quarterbacks Chase Daniel and Sean Canfield.
While it was great that Brees won his fourth ESPY Saints fans are getting a little nervous that Brees might sit out training camp and possibly the entire season. Brees has said publicly that he would never sit out the season but time is running out for Brees and the Saints to agree on a long-term deal. The Saints have until July 16th to sign Brees to a long-term deal. If the Saints and Brees cannot agree on a deal by the deadline than the only other option would be for Brees to play under the Saints’ franchise tag. However, Brees has said that he would not like to play under the franchise tag.
Saints fans can’t wait for Brees to come back and play, but at this point no one is quite sure when Brees will return. Brees is obviously still a beloved NFL player as fans on espn.com voted for him to win his fourth ESPY. In a best-case scenario the Saints and Brees will come to terms on a new deal and Brees can win another ESPY next season as a member of the Saints.
