Ramses Barden had big expectations coming out of college when the New York Giants drafted him in 2009. Barden is a big 6’6” wide receiver and was to supposed to be the big redzone threat for the Giants in the same vein as Plaxico Burress was. Barden has 15 catches in his career so far.
Barden has had a bunch of injuries throughout his career, missing a lot of time. He’s really fallen down on the depth chart. Coming out of a small school in Cal-Poly, there is going to be and adjustment to the NFL level. The problem is is that its year three and the fact that it’s time for him to step up and stay healthy and play.
With all the questions the Giants have at wide receiver, he’d be a nice piece to fit in that spot. A big guy in the slot or even the redzone producing is just the way the Giants drew it up. He’s probably about fifth or sixth on the depth chart right now, but a productive training camp and good health you never know. If he’s not productive, he could be on the chopping block in a roster crunch as well.
The way the NFL is right now, you need as many productive pass catchers as you can get. If Barden can show that he can produce then he might be another option for Eli Manning this year. If not, he may not make it to September 6.
