The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have signed wide receiver Nick Toon to a four year deal. Toon was drafted 122nd overall in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL draft. Toon’s four year deal means that the Saints have now signed all five of their 2012 draft choices.
Toon joins a deep Saints’ receiving corps that will surely be utilized this season. Toon’s signing comes a few days after the Saints signed quarterback Drew Brees to his record-breaking deal. Toon will be a new weapon for Brees and the Saints’ offense this season and he should be able to make an impact during his rookie season.
Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 218 pounds he will be another big target for Brees to throw to. Toon had a very productive college career as well as a great pedigree. Toon’s father, Al Toon, played eight seasons in the NFL with the New York Jets. Toon is hoping to successfully follow in his father’s footsteps and hopes to surpass him.
Toon is likened to Saints star wide receiver Marques Colston and he can learn a lot from Colston as well as the other receivers on the Saints’ roster. Toon was a solid pick up for the Saints and it is evident that his development is well under way. Toon can make an impact for the Saints right away and could ultimately become a big time receiver.
Toon has the skills and size to be a great wide receiver and he will surely flourish with the newly signed Brees at the helm of the offense. Toon’s signing is more great news for the Saints who no longer have to worry about any more big contracts as they continue to solidify their roster.
