Cedric Benson is one guy who hasn’t been seen in a lot of NFL rumors this offseason. He might be out of touch with his value on the market, but it is shocking to me that a guy who can produce like he can doesn’t have a deal. Benson was giving an interview on Sirius XM when he mentioned the Green Bay Packers have been checking in on him.
This certainly does not mean a move is coming. The Packers are just being through, considering they have three running backs on the roster right now. James Starks has shown flashes of talent in his starting time. Alex Green and Brandon Saine are both young guys that could be worth something later on.
Benson will have to lower his price if he wants to find a team before the start of the season. A lot of teams have the rosters pretty much set and training camps are closing in. Running backs are losing value and it seems you can plug and play a guy for a couple of weeks. Starks was a 6th round draft pick for GB who didn’t even play his senior season at Buffalo and was a key part of the Packers winning the Super Bowl.
I would keep my eye on Benson the closer we get to camps. There might be a guy who goes down in camp and a team will need to bring in a new person to take over the carries. The NFL rumors should be around for a little bit longer.
