Louis Murphy has a lot of talent but he will no longer be using that talent with the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders have traded the wideout to the Carolina Panthers, where he will get to run routes and catch passes from the reigning Rookie of the Year in Cam Newton.
This move is kind of a shock, but it does not hurt to give Newton more weapons. There are no other details about this trade at this time but I like the move for the Panthers going forward. Louis Murphy has a lot of talent and might end up being that second guy next to Steve Smith for the team in the long run.
Not sure how this helps the Raiders in the long run, but Oakland is not known for thinking too far down the road. They must feel that they can get more value from Murphy in a trade than they can this season on the field. He has had troubles staying on the field and being productive so that might be why.
Louis Murphy might be worth a late round pick in fantasy drafts as well. Newton can put up big numbers in the air and someone needs to catch the ball from him besides Smith. It would be worth taking a flier on him late in the draft if a team needs a wideout. On the actual field, Murphy should be able to put up good numbers. Smith is basically double-teamed all the time, so the chances are there to have a great year.
