The strength of the New York Giants in recent years has been their defensive line. The pass rush that they get has been one of the reasons why they have won two super bowls in five years. Their defensive line is a bit of a MASH unit right now. Should the New York Giants seek outside defensive line help?
Shaun Rogers is now out for the year with a blood clot issue. Marvin Austin went to the hospital to get his back checked out and those results aren’t in as the time of this posting. Rocky Bernard is a little banged up. Chris Canty is still on the PUP list and may need to be during the season as well. That leaves the Giants with Dwayne Hendricks, Linval Joseph and rookie Markus Kuhn at defensive tackle.
So who can they go after? Albert Haynesworth? The Giants had interst early in the offseason but I can’t see them going that way. Fred Robbins? The Giants had him the first time they went to the Super Bowl during this current run and I can’t see them going down that road again. Jimmy Kennedy? He was with the team last year and knows the system that they run.
My guess is that the Giants wait and see about the report on Austin before doing anything. Rocky Bernard should be back soon. I think they are going to try and claim a player off waivers before trying to sign a free agent. They will make a move, sooner rather than later though.
