Dallas Cowboys Cut Players to Reach 53-Man Active Roster Limit

Like the other 31 NFL teams, the Dallas Cowboys have begun cutting players to reach the 53-man active roster limit by Friday’s deadline. Many players were on the bubble heading into the Cowboys’ final preseason game against the Miami Dolphins and some made an impression that allowed them to keep their jobs while some didn’t.

Here are the players that have been let go by the Cowboys:

FB Shaun Chapas

LB Adrian Hamilton

QB Rudy Carpenter

WR Danny Coale

RB Lance Dunbar

DE Clifton Geathers

S Eddie Whitley

CB Teddy Williams

CB Lionel Smith

LB Baraka Atkins

CB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah

TE Andrew Szczerba

WR Saalim Hakim

DE Robert Calloway

WR Tim Benford

DE Ben Bass

OT Pat McQuistan

G Daniel Loper

G Ron Leary

LB Orie Lemon – reportedly will be brought back on practice squad

G Harland Gunn

OT Jeff Adams

This list will be updated daily until all roster cuts and moves have been made and Dallas is down to just 53 players on the 53-man active roster. Surprised by a few names on the list? You’re not alone. Guys like Hamilton had a great off-season and preseason, but the Cowboys just didn’t want to keep that many linebackers, which is a very crowded position on the team as it is.

Some of these guys will be re-signed to the practice squad and we’ll obviously keep you updated on which players get the call back. Past players like Jesse Holley used their time on the practice squad to eventually make a mark during the regular season. Which players do you think can do that for the Cowboys this year?

Rant your comments below on who should have been kept on the team.
