It was a field goal show for most of the game the Titans struck first when kicker Rob Bironas hit a 18 yard field goal in the first quarter. They were answered quickly though by a field goal from New Orleans’ Garrett Hartley for 60 yards.
In the third quarter Hartley struck again giving the Saints the edge then leading 6-3.
Jake Locker played the first half of the game hitting 9-of16 passes for 81 yards. He didn’t throw an interception but did have one fumble. Matt Hasselbeck came in to relieve him in the second half going 3-for-4 with passing for only 19 yards.
The only touchdown in the game was credited to Jamie Harper, a one yard run followed by a good extra point by Bironas. The Titans took the lead 10-6.
During the end of the fourth quarter the teams drove back and forth, in the final minute of play the Saints were able to bring the ball within the 30-yard line of Tennessee territory. But neither team would score again.
Low scoring game can come because of two situations. Either both teams are not doing very well, or the teams are evenly matched. In this particular case the teams were neck and neck all game. The Titans were able to pursue their goals going into the game knowing they were the underdogs.
They seem to be ready for the regular season and it will be interesting to see what guys do not make the cut tomorrow to make the final roster.
