Chicago Bears Expected to Re-Sign Amobi Okoye
The Chicago Bears are expected to re-sign defensive lineman Amobi Okoye. Okoye was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaners after he did not play in the last 3 preseason games. Okoye is not fully healthy as he has a bad knee. He did have a knee scope back in June.
Okoye did play for the Bears last year, but as a reserve. He playeed very well and did have a great season. But Okoye decided to leave the Bears and sign with the Buccaners. He signed a one-year deal worth 1.3 million in the off-season. The main reason Okoye left was not due the money, but due to the playing time.
If Okoye is healthy, this is a great signing. This adds depth to the DL in which is hurting right now. Entering yesterday’s final preseason game, the Bears only had one healthy DL (that will sure make the team for sure) and that was Henry Melton.
Entering yesterday’s game … Julius Peppers is dealing with a foot injury, Matt Toeaina had a cast on his arm, Stephen Paea is still dealing with an ankle injury and Brian Price whom is fighting for a roster spot left with a head injury yesterday.
Nate Collins whom I thought played well this preseason, has a one-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy may be the reason for him not making the team.
Like I said, if the Bears do finalize the deal for Okoye, it would be a great signing.
Early roster moves:
*The Bears are expected to terminate the contract of QB Josh McCown.
*The Bears will waive 7th round pick Greg McCoy.
*The Bears will waive S Mark LeGree.
*The Bears will release CB Isaiah Frey, but he’ll join the practice squad.
*The Bears are expected to waive LB Xavier Adibi.
*The Bears waive WR Brittan Golden.
*The Bears have waived FB Tyler Clutts.
*The Bears have waived CB Cornellius Brown.
I’ll have a write-up later on the whole Bears 53-man roster and whom did not make the team.
