The Philadelphia Eagles released 19 players early on Friday and three more on Friday afternoon, giving them their official 53-man roster. Obviously it will be subject to change over the next few days, but as of now, these are your 53 players.
Quarterbacks:
On: Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Trent Edwards
It became obvious throughout the preseason that Edwards deserved the number three quarterback job. The Eagles tried to trade Kafka but nobody was interested.
Running Backs:
On: LeSean McCoy, Dion Lewis, Bryce Brown, Chris Polk, Stanley Havili
It will be interesting to see how many are active on game days.
Wide Receivers:
On: DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant, Riley Cooper, Damaris Johnson
Only four wide receivers will be healthy in week one against Cleveland.
Tight Ends:
On: Brent Celek, Clay Harbor
As expected.
Offensive Tackles:
On: King Dunlap, Todd Herremans, Dennis Kelly, Demetress Bell
As expected.
Guards:
On: Evan Mathis, Danny Watkins, Julian Vandervelde
As expected.
Centers:
On: Jason Kelce, Dallas Reynolds
Reynolds makes it over the veteran Steve Vallos.
Defensive Tackles:
On: Cullen Jenkins, Derek Landri, Fletcher Cox, Cedric Thornton
The Eagles tried to trade Antonio Dixon but nobody was interested. He was released.
Defensive Ends:
On: Trent Cole, Jason Babin, Phillip Hunt, Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry, Darryl Tapp
I’m glad that all six stayed.
Linebackers:
On: DeMeco Ryans, Mychal Kendricks, Akeem Jordan, Jamar Chaney, Brian Rolle, Casey Matthews
The Keenan Clayton era is over in Philly. (Did it ever begin?)
Cornerbacks:
On: Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Brandon Boykin, Curtis Marsh, Brandon Hughes, Trevard Lindley
Not a shocker that Joselio Hanson was released, but I’m very surprised that Trevard Lindley made the team.
Safeties:
On: Nate Allen, Kurt Coleman, Jaiquawn Jarrett, Colt Anderson
Interesting to see Anderson activated before the season.
Special Teams:
K: Alex Henery
P: Chas Henry
LS: Jon Dorenbos
IR: Ron Johnson, Brian Hernandez
Non-Football Illness: Mike Patterson
Non-Football Injury: Jason Peters
