Yesterday was one of the toughest days that every team in the NFL will have off the field this season. It’s always hard to say goodbye to players, especially players that shouldn’t be cut, but have to be due to the limit of 53 players on the team.
Fortunately for the Tennessee Titans, five of the players that were cut yesterday were signed to the practice squad today. Tight end Brandon Barden, fullback Collin Mooney and wide receiver Michael Preston all signed this afternoon.
The Titans have way too many wide receivers at this point; it was inevitable that someone was going to get cut, especially with Kenny Britt only being suspended for one game.
Now of all the cuts made yesterday, Mike Munchak spoke with reporters stating that two of the hardest people to cut were defensive tackle Zach Clayton and keeping DaJohn Harris. Also among the hardest cuts was cornerback Chris Hawkins.
Zach Clayton signed today, also with the Titans practice squad. There is a good amount of teams though that may want Harris with his experience. The Titans thought replacing Cortland Finnegan was going to be a problem but not with 2012 NFL Draft Pick Coty Sensabaugh and veteran Ryan Mouton.
Each NFL team is allowed to sign eight players to their practice squad. Therefor the Titans have three more spots available. Players like Cameron Graham and Chris Harris should be picked up by other teams, so there is no need to sign them to the squad. Nor do I think they would be interested in the deal.
