The Detroit Lions have decided to keep QB Kellen Moore after the team cut its roster down on Friday to the required number of 53. Moore is an undrafted QB out of Boise St. and was considered to be a long shot to make the team before training camp.
The Lions decided to carry Moore as the third QB on the depth chart. This bodes well for the team depth wise at the quarterback position, especially with Matthew Stafford’s history with injuries and with Shaun Hill starting to get up their age wise.
It is a win-win for Moore and the Lions as the team did need to bring in some youth at the position in case of a Stafford injury. The Detroit Lions organization has been criticized as much as a political party in recent years for many of their decisions, but this one seems to make a great deal of sense.
Now common sense and the Lions went about as hand in hand as Lindsay Lohan and common sense did, but times have changed for Detroit at least. The team is trying to build off of its playoff appearance last season with the goal of growing into a fully fledged NFL championship contender.
The Lions open this Sunday at home against the Kansas City Chiefs.
