Detroit Lions Look to Start Strong Again

By Brian Cote

As the Detroit Lions take the field on Sunday at Ford Field, the team will be looking to start the NFL season off strong like they did in 2011.

Tomorrow’s game is highly anticipated by the players not only because it is the 2012 regular season kickoff, but because it is an opportunity for Detroit to get a much-needed win.

The Week 1 match-up against the St. Louis Rams is an important one if you look at Detroit’s early-season schedule. The Lions play four of their first six games on the road. Three of those road games – at the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears – will undoubtedly be tough challenges. The other road game won’t be easy either as Detroit faces off with the Tennessee Titans.

These road games could make or break the season for Detroit. By looking at the schedule, it’s easy to see where the Lions could end up being a .500 type football team.

If head coach Jim Schwartz can get his team off to another great start and if the team can win some of those big road games then they could set themselves up for another playoff run. The franchise wants to become a consistent winner and the only marker for that is “winning”.

Lord only knows how much the Detroit fans want this team to succeed, but my guess is that it would mean a great deal to the city.
