The San Francisco 49ers are taking it to the Green Bay Packers as I’m writing this. Only one of the top two teams in the NFC last season decided to show up, with the 49ers taking a 23-7 lead early in the third quarter. Alex Smith connected with Vernon Davis for a touchdown on third and goal strike. A fine catch by Davis, but his celebration afterwards was anything but.
As you can see, Davis is a much better football player than he is a basketball player, getting completely rejected by the crossbar that was ever so kind to his teammate David Akers in the previous quarter.
The rejected dunk isn’t the only thing Packer fans can laugh at today. They can laugh at the team’s play, most notably Jarrett Bush, who is the worst player in football history. By football, I mean american football and soccer. Heck, he might be the worst starting player in the history of sports.
It’s clear the Packers haven’t improved whatsoever from last season’s despicable defensive performance. San Francisco’s wide receivers had five-yard cushions all day. The coverage was so bad, Randy Moss caught his first touchdown since his “retirement”.
It’s also clear the 49ers are not a fluke and a legitimate favorite in the NFC. Their defense is still extremely stout, and their offense was better than expected. They should definitely cruise to another NFC West title as long as they are healthy.
Just stay away from the dunks, Vernon Davis.
