Seattle Seahawks Lose First Game to Division Rival

Seattle Seahawk - Russell Wilson

The Seattle Seahawks may have lost their first game of the season to the division rival Arizona Cardinals, but there was still a lot of promise that came out of the loss.

Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson played decently in his first regular season start in the NFL. Wilson finished the game with just over 150-yards passing including one touchdown and one interception. Though those numbers are not that impressive, it showed that Wilson is able to perform at the position and can lead the team down the field.

Wilson also finished with the game with 20-yards rushing on eight attempts.

In the last drive of the game, Wilson was able to put his team in the position to win the game after driving down the field. The last pass of the game ended in a drop by Braylon Edwards in the end zone which would have given the Seahawks a win.

Even though the pass was a little outside, Edwards should have made the catch to win the game. Wilson put the ball exactly where he needed to for his receiver to catch it but Edwards could not hold on.

Yes it was a disappointing play for Seattle fans but it demonstrates that Wilson is capable of leading his team to a comeback and has the confidence to run the offense.

Marshawn Lynch was the feature back for the game but was not able to contribute too much. Lynch ended the day with 85-yards and zero touchdowns on 21 carries. The Seahawks need a better performance from their run game to allow Wilson to have the time to make the throws.

Seattle needs to have consistency with the run game and Lynch needs to be able to get into the end zone to have a successful season.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Seahawks were able to come away with one interception and a fumble recovery while allowing only 43-yards on the ground. The defense for Seattle showed they can stop the run and come away with takeaways. If the offense can pick up the pace the defense will keep them ahead.

Though the Seahawks lost the first game of the year to a division rival, Wilson showed he deserves to be the starter and if they offense can get a rhythm the result will not be the same as they prepare for next week.
