NFL Rumors: Tim Tebow to request trade at season’s end?

Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow wants to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.

However, unless Mark Sanchez regresses significantly as the season progresses, it appears that the New York Jets are set at quarterback. So where does that leave the former Heisman Trophy winner who fans can’t get enough of?

According to some NFL sources, Tebow could be eyeing a trade if he doesn’t see a significant increase in playing time throughout the 2012 season.

When he was acquired from the Denver Broncos back in March, Tebow was believed to be Sanchez’s eventual replacement as the Jets’ starting quarterback. That was until the fourth-year starter for New York turned in a surprisingly-dominant Week 1 performance against the Buffalo Bills.

Compiling 266 passing yards, three touchdowns and an interception while completing 70.4 percent of his passes, Sanchez ended the game with a 123.4 passer rating and guided the Jets to a 48-28 win that was more lopsided than the score would lead you to believe.

While Sanchez was solidifying his starting spot, Tebow managed only 11 yards on five carries in limited playing time. In essence, football’s favorite magician was a non-factor.

If this trend continues throughout the 2012 campaign, Tebow might not be willing to spend another season playing second fiddle to Sanchez.  Another team should be tempted to acquire his ability to pull big plays out of thin air, which could leave the Jets in a position to part ways with the backup.

Only time will tell if the Jets find a significant role for Tebow at some point this season. If the only gig he can get is personal protector, though, this could be his first and only year in New York.
