Denver Broncos versus the Atlanta Falcons Monday night will be well worthy of the prime time game, but will Peyton Manning and the upbeat Broncos be able to slow down the Falcons and Matt Ryan, who just put up 40 against the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday?
The Broncos’ defense was decent against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, but they did give up a few big plays at times when they were overly aggressive. This worries me in Week 2 versus the Falcons.
The Falcons have a much more dangerous passing game than the Steelers. Ryan will be slinging the ball early and often and no one seems to be able to slow down second-year wideout Julio Jones in large part because everyone also has to focus on Roddy White, who has 215 receptions over the last two seasons.
Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, tight end Tony Gonzalez, who is a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame, will split the defense down the middle of the field for a big gain.
The Broncos should be able to put up good numbers as well though; the Kansas City Chiefs‘ Matt Cassell completed 21 of 33 passes for 258 yards against Atlanta, but also threw two interceptions with only one touchdown. I could see Manning topping those numbers with something like 300 yards, two-plus touchdowns and minimal interceptions.
This game could be a high-scoring battle or if one offense turns the ball over a couple times then they could find themselves in catchup mode. Either way, it’s going to be fun to watch.
