John Madden Calls Robert Griffin III a “Tebow That Can Pass”
Legendary NFL hall of fame head coach John Madden made headlines this week for more than just the new hit video game that bears his name.
The former Oakland Raiders coach told listeners on his SiriusXM radio show that he was a believer of Washington Redskins rookie phenom QB Robert Griffin III. Many NFL fans have to be scratching their heads right now. The fans have to be wondering if this is the beginning a Brett Favre-esque type affection for RGIII on behalf of Madden.
Madden has a notorious reputation for being amazed at whatever Favre seemed to do, but as of writing this there is no word on how he felt about Favre’s infamous cell phone pic.
All joking aside this is a bold statement from a legendary NFL figure who’s opinions still carry a great deal of weight in NFL circles. Griffin III came to play against the New Orleans Saints as evidenced by his stat line in Washington’s 40-32 win and by him winning NFC offensive player of the week honors.
“And at some point, I have to admit that I said this, it just came out, I said ‘RG3′s the best player in the NFL today.”
That is what Madden said on SiriusXm NFL Radio.
Madden also told the Washington Post that: “You know, the thing that he did that was so amazing was he reminded me — and I don’t mean to throw names around — but he reminded me of a Tim Tebow that can pass.”
This may be the last time we here New York Jets backup QB Tebow and RGIII spoken in the same breath. At least we all hope so for RGIII’s sake.
The moral of the story here is that Griffin III has not only captured fan interest, but also the admiration of those who are close to the game.
