NFL Power Rankings: Carolina Panthers Earn Little Respect

Jeremy Brevard-US Presswire

The Carolina Panthers hold steady in the latest NFL Power Rankings from RantSports.com.

Following their week one let down against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Panthers found themselves ranked rather generously in the 22nd spot. However, despite a much improved effort during their home opener in week two against the New Orleans Saints, the Panthers remain ranked 22nd in these latest week three rankings.

Panthers fans shouldn’t be too concerned at this point. The good news is that Carolina held their ground and didn’t slide back in the ever so watched after world of NFL Power Rankings.

Rant Sports NFL Columnist Jeff Shull writes, “The Panthers stay the course here with a home win over the Saints. I’m sorry, but a win over the Saints not as impressive as it once was.”

A perfectly suitable argument, especially considering the fact that Carolina has a long way to go to earn the respect of writers and fans who follow this game closely, but the Saints are a year removed from going 13-3 and winning the NFC South. New Orleans still has their All-Time NFL passing yards leader in quarterback Drew Brees at the helm with offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael at his side and not to mention the highly anticipated addition of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

All key pieces in place should keep the Saints on track for another dominate season, even though New Orleans’ defense has gotten trounced through the first two weeks and now they aren’t considered as good as they once recently were.

Carolina played effective football in their week two, 35-27 win over the Saints. The Panthers will have to continue to improve and win in order for their overall Power Ranking to rise. For now, Panthers fans should take solace in the fact that their Panthers beat a good team this past Sunday.
