Good news for the New York Jets, as they try to shake off their first loss of the season and get back on track this weekend.
Barring any setbacks, it appears that superstar cornerback Darrelle Revis will be ready to play this week, after he missed last week’s game with a concussion, the first of his NFL career. Revis suffered the injury in the Jets’ Week 1 win over the Buffalo Bills, causing him to miss the Jets’ Week 2 game, a road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Dolphins no longer have Brandon Marshall, which means Revis will probably cover Brian Hartline or Davone Bess this week, a tough task for any wide receiver.
Regardless of where Revis lines up, the fact that #24 is likely to return this week will be a huge boost for the Jets.
Having a player of Revis’s caliber enables Rex Ryan to get creative with his defense schemes, and Ryan can be a mad scientist at times with his exotic defensive looks and game plans.
Revis’s presence on the field is the difference between a pretty good defense and being one of the best defenses in the league.
Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson started on the outside last week, but a Darrelle Revis return moves Wilson back into the slot corner position, where he has excelled at times.
Revis, Cromartie and Wilson each had an interception in Week 1, as the Jets held Buffalo to under 200 passing yards.
This week against rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill, the Jets will hope for more of the same. Revis can make life awfully difficult for opposing quarterbacks.
