After a two year hiatus from the Cleveland Browns organization, Hall of Fame Great Jimmy Brown is coming back to Cleveland. Brown will be in town this weekend to see his long time friend, Ernie Green get inducted in to the Cleveland Browns Legends club.
When current President Mike Holmgren settled in to his new role three years ago, shortly after, he released Brown of his duties in the front office. That did not sit well with Brown or the entire Cleveland fan base. Holmgren was criticized for the move and although Holmgren actually let Brown go, the move was stemmed from Randy Lerner.
The tides are about to turn. It is clear that Haslam gets “it”. Why wouldn’t you want perhaps the greatest NFL player of all time on your side? This is yet another sign that Haslam will turn this team around and do whatever it takes.
At a Browns alumni golf outing on Friday, Brown said, “I am forever a Cleveland Brown.” He spoke thoroughly and from the heart. It doesn’t take a genius to see Brown missed the Cleveland Browns. It is easy to tell Brown wants to see a winning tradition again in Cleveland. Brown saw old faces and talked about his golf game. It was as if he never left.
With new owner Haslam getting ready to take over the reigns in mid October, Brown seems eager to help, adding, “If I can be a part of a new winning attitude and help get some victories, man, that would be fantastic.”
For the first time in two years, the man that made the #32 jersey legendary will walk on the field this Sunday at halftime. A standing ovation is sure to follow. For Brown and Browns fans, Sunday should be a great sense of closure and moving forward. It wouldn’t be a bad thing to pull out a “W” either.
