Stats Sunday: Miami Dolphins vs New York Jets

The Star-Ledger-US PRESSWIRE

We are moments away from week 3 kick-off for the Miami Dolphins (New York Jets this week in big AFC East tilt). This article is my weekly look at Stats Sunday…

Dustin Keller (Jets tight end who is a Dolphins killer) has been ruled OUT for today’s game.

Darrelle Revis, who is likely to play today as he returns from a concussion, has 3 career INTs vs Miami. His only pick at Miami was his first ever game back in 2008.

Mark Sanchez is 2-4 in his career vs the Dolphins. In games played at Miami Sanchez has had 1 good game and 2 poor games in going 1-2. His good game was in 2010 when he went 15 for 28 for 256 yards, plus 3 TDs and was not intercepted. Last season the ‘Phins picked-off Sanchez 3 times (Sanchez career has 9 TDs and 4 INTs vs Miami).

Reggie Bush has only has 16 career rushes vs the Jets, but he is averaging a gaudy 6.8 yards per carry. In 2012 Bush is averaging 6.0 yards per carry, and has a season-long run of 65 yards under his belt too.

Bush is on a run of 3-straight home games of 100+ yards.

Shonn Greene has 63 carries vs Miami, just a lowly 3.3 yards per attempt (in 2012 Greene is averaging 3.1 yards per carry). Greene’s longest run this season was for 14 yards.

Jets are 4-0 in games where Greene rushes for 100+ yards. Miami has not yielded 100+ rushing yards to one player in 1 year.

Miami has the #1 rush defense. The yield just 2.2 yards per carry. Opponents are averaging a measly 53 rushing yards per game.

Jets WR Santonio Holmes is expecting a big day, but he has not eclipsed 100+ receiving yards in 27 games.

Only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been torched through the air worse than Miami so far in 2012.

Tony Sparano returns to Miami where he coached the ‘Phins for 3+ years (Tony Sparano-era article HERE).

Last season Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos were down 15-0 with 3 minutes left. Tebow did what his thing and threw a pair of TDs in the last 2+ minutes, and ran in the 2-pount conversion to force OT where Denver prevailed 18-15. Tebow was embarrassing for 57 minutes, then unreal for 2+ minutes which was enough to get the W.

Neither team has had any success harassing opposing QBs. The Jets have just 3 sacks, Miami just 2.

The Jets offensive-line have allowed just 2 sacks, Miami has allowed 4.

This series is at 24-21-1 in the Dolphins favor for games played in Miami.

Big game. Miami has had a lot of changes in 2012. The growing pains have been evident, but a W would have them at 2-1 while the J-E-T-S JETS-JETS-JETS would be 1-2.

Thank you for your read! Pass it on…Enjoy the game
