The Arizona Cardinals Defense is the Story

The Seattle Seahawks don’t even have to play for the Arizona Cardinals to know that they are already in first place. The San Francisco 49ers lost to the Minnesota Vikings in the early games before the Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-6. The real story in this game was the fantastic play by the Cardinals defense.  The Cardinals performance is highlighted by the 93 yard touchdown fumble rumble by James Sanders at the end of the first half.

Michael Vick really had problems from the start of the game when the Cardinals defense started with a three and out. The Cardinals were able to hold the Eagles to just 308 total yards while giving fantasy owners a reason to pick up their defense for week four. The Cardinals pressure on Vick was intense. They had five sacks against the Eagles offensive line. That stat should have been a lot higher as Vick spent most of this game on his backside. Daryl Washington had two sacks of his own in the pounding of the Eagles.

I can tell you from this game that the Cardinals defense is great. They continue to show the NFL that they are here to stay and there is nothing they can do about it. For those of you counting this brings my record to 0-3 on predicting the Cardinals to lose. Larry Fitzgerald, of course, did not struggle at all after I predicted him to have a tough game against the Eagles and for the rest of the year.

One of the biggest thing we learned from this week is that Kevin Kolb is the starting quarterback in Arizona. If Ken Whisenhunt does not announce that before John Skelton is healthy I think there will be a team problem. However, that is a conversation for another day.

This is another statement win for Arizona. Not a person on this planet seriously predicted the Cardinals to be undefeated at this point in the season. The only real question at this point is where do they go from here?
