Brian Moorman, Pro bowl punter for the Buffalo Bills was cut today and it shocking to say the least news out of One Bills Drive. I don’t know what truly factored into this decision but I’m sure his inconsistent punting, not to mention he is in the twilight of his career at age 37 didn’t help his case.
Undrafted Free Agent Rookie Shawn Powell whom worked out with the Bills during the preseason and training camp has been brought him to replace Brian Moorman. There is so much to be said about how much of a class act Brian has been in the Buffalo community since 2001. I can personally vouch that he was one of the people on the team at Buffalo Bills Training Camp to be the first to sign autographs after practice, and one of the last to leave on a regular basis.
He was definately a leader on and off the field with the Bills, some years he was considered our best player in our dark years in the 2000s. Not only was he an excellent punter, he was a brilliant athlete, as on fake punts he would take off and run with excellent speed from his hurdles experience in college, where he still owns the record for the 110 meter hurdles for Pittsburg State where he attended college.
I have a feeling that he will not be a free agent that long, as he is a big enough name out there that if a team needs a punter, they won’t have to look far for a great verteran leader, who can still flip the field and change where the opposing team starts their drives.
I just wanted to thank Brian for 11 amazing seasons with the Buffalo Bills and I wish him much success in which ever team signs him up.
