Dallas Cowboys Trying Out Five Safeties
Dallas Cowboys Trying Out Five Safeties

The Dallas Cowboys lost safety Barry Church for the year when he tore his Achillies on Sunday leaving the team in need of another safety. Rookie Matt Johnson still is being hampered by hamstring issues and apparently his back is now flaring up, so he is no closer to seeing the field. The Cowboys may get Gerald Sensabaugh back this week, which will help but it’s clear they are still looking at other options.
Dallas is be bringing in five defensive backs for a workout; Antwaun Molden, Tyrone Culver, Eric Frampton, Don Carey and Aaron Rouse will all be showing up at Valley Ranch for a tryout. The Cowboys also are said to be considering bringing back Mario Butler, who was released last week to make room for Oriie Lemon.
Among that group, Molden is the only cornerback. The Cowboys experimented using Brandon Carr at safety in specific situations last week but I don’t think they want to be using their best corner in that role for the remainder of the season. They paid him $50 million to be an elite corner, not a safety.
For the Cowboys the never ending cycle of trying to find safeties appears to be rearing its ugly head once again. They do have Danny McCray ready to make his second consecutive start and Mana Silva as another option should Gerald Sensabaugh not be ready to play with an injured calf muscle. Those are the only three safeties on the roster and the Cowboys are trying to get some more help at the position with the arrival of these five players.
Cowboys will workout Carey this week

Don Carey has played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2010 and last year he was a member of the Detroit Lions. He has one career interception.
