Green Bay Packers Players Speak Out On Twitter About Replacement Refs in Seattle

By Bryn Swartz

By now, the football world knows exactly what happened with the Green Bay Packers in their game against the Seattle Seahawks tonight.

On the final play of the game, rookie quarterback Russell Wilson heaved a Hail Mary that was ruled a touchdown catch by wide receiver Golden Tate, which gave the Seahawks an improbable 14-12 victory.

But replays clearly showed that Packers safety MD Jennings had possession of the ball immediately and Tate only got an arm in there. The play should have been ruled an interception by Jennings, which would have given the Packers a victory.

I truly believe that the refs did not give the interception to the Packers because they were scared of the possible reaction by the Seattle crowd.

The reaction by Packers players on Twitter was brutal, Absolutely brutal.

Here is a complete list of the tweets by players, available on Deadspin.

Players who tweeted about the game included TJ Lang, Ryan Grant, Desmond Bishop, Tom Crabtree, DJ Williams, Nick Collins, Jermichael Finley, Josh Sitton, Jerel Worthy, Davon House, Alex Green, CJ Wilson, Gilbert Brown, Johnny Jolly, Marshall Newhouse, Brandian Ross, Terrell Manning, Dezman Moses and Greg Jennings.

Here are a few sample tweets:

In his postgame conference, Aaron Rodgers described the call as “awful”. Head coach Mike McCarthy handled the loss pretty well, although the first thing he said at his press conference was that he wasn’t going to answer any questions about the replacement refs.

The win improved the Seahawks to 2-1. They will travel to St. Louis to play the Rams next week. The 1-2 Packers will host the 0-3 New Orleans Saints in a must-win game for both teams.
