Arizona Cardinals Running Back Beanie Wells out til late November
Arizona Cardinals Running Back Beanie Wells was placed on injured reserve earlier today because of turf toe. Good news for the Cardinals though, he will be eligible for return on November 25th. Turf toe is a very common injury in the NFL and has been known to slow down some of the best players in the league. The Cardinals signed running back Alfonso Smith and full back Korey Hall to make up for the loss.
What does this mean for the Cardinals? Well, Ryan Williams will get the majority of the snaps until he returns. Williams played well against the Philadelphia Eagles getting some tough yards late in the game. Making up for his fumble that almost lost the Cardinals the game against the New England Patriots. Williams currently leads the team with 106 yards on 31 carries.
The injury to Wells should not concern the Cardinals. Williams is a good back and probably would have passed Wells eventually later in the season. Williams is in his first season as a pro after missing last year out of Virgina Tech with a knee injury.
I think this will be a good thing when the Cardinals are making their playoff push at the end of the season. Most teams have success with one running back for the full season, but the Cardinals are in a unique position to have a fresh player at the end of the season. Wells will miss seven games, but I think the Cardinals will eventually benefit from Wells’ toe injury. The running game in Arizona is probably the number one thing they need to improve on as the season moves forward.
