The San Diego Chargers will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City on Sunday at 10:00 AM PDT. San Diego has a 7-2 record against Kansas City in their last nine meetings going back to the 2007 NFL season.
The Chargers have lost their last two games in Kansas City, but one loss was by seven points while the other was a three point loss in overtime. San Diego has to be prepared to contain Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles.
Charles did not play in both games last season after suffering a torn ACL in week two, but was second in the NFL in rushing yards during the 2010 season. Charles is still a threat this season because he is leading the league with 323 rushing yards and is fifth at 5.9 yards per attempt.
In six games against San Diego, Charles has 46 attempts, 273 yards and two touchdowns. While Charles does not average a lot of yards per game against the Lightning Bolts, he is at 5.9 yards per attempt.
Charles averages 6.0 yards per attempt for his career which is fifth all-time in NFL history. The key to victory for Kansas City will be an attempt to contain Antonio Gates.
In 14 games against Kansas City, Gates has 77 receptions, 952 yards and 12 touchdown receptions. Gates averages 68 receiving yards per game against KC compared to his career average of about 59 yards per game.
San Diego is coming off a 27-3 beat down from the Atlanta Falcons while Kansas City is coming off a 27-24 overtime win against the New Orleans Saints. I expect this game to be close with the Chargers winning 17-10.
