Let me get this out of the way first: I am not going to pay any attention to what NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has to say when he speaks today about getting the regular officials back to working games and neither should you.
It’s a complete joke that Goodell wants to come forward now and speak to the public about what went down to get the regular refs back in business. I find it ironic he wants to talk today, when everything is settled. Things are good now in the NFL because we have the full product we are used to seeing back in full force. The games will go quicker and there won’t be as many mistakes by the professional referees. It took a few games, but the NFL is back!
I wonder where the good commish has been for the past few weeks, though, when things were bad? Why was he hiding behind press releases instead being out in front of the football world explaining what has been going on in his league? Why didn’t he stand in front of our television sets and tell us why the league and its officials haven’t been able to come to an agreement?
It is absolutely ridiculous that Goodell is facing the music now when all is good.
If you’ve been reading me, you know I’ve been behind a lot of what Roger Goodell has done in the league since he’s been commissioner. This situation, however, I find inexcusable. If you can’t be up front and honest when things are bad, you shouldn’t be able to come out when things are good. This move from Goodell is pure hypocrisy.
It’s the NFL and people will pay attention to whatever he has to say, but I won’t. I would have no problem hearing about a memo from the league office on this matter.
Just like we’ve all done for the first three weeks of the season.
