Chad Greenway Playing Inspired Football for His Father

Brace Hemmelgarn-US PRESSWIRE

One reason the Minnesota Vikings sit at 2-1 early in this season is linebacker Chad Greenway. The seven year veteran has really stepped up his level of play this year, most recently when he recorded 13 tackles against the San Francisco 49ers, including one highlight reel sack of Alex Smith.

It was an emotional game for Greenway as his father Alan was in attendance. Greenway’s father has been battling leukemia, but felt well enough to make it to Sunday’s game from his farm in South Dakota.

Chad Greenway described what it meant to have his father in attendance after the upset win:

“It was certainly fun for me. It had a bunch of added greatness, my dad was able to make the game. That was huge for me just to get the win and be able to have a lot of fun playing the game I love, the game I grew up around him loving. He is doing as well as can be expected right now. There’s a long, tough row to hoe, but right now he’s doing well. I knew I wasn’t going to leave anything in the tank , not that I ever do. I wanted it to be special. I’m just happy it turned out we played that kind of football.”

Vikings fan or not, this is just a story that should make you thankful for what you have. Chad Greenway continues to show he’s one of the most down to earth football players in the game today. We can only hope that his father will continue to see his son’s rise up the ladder as one the NFL‘s best linebackers.
