As if the New England Patriots weren’t dealing with enough injuries, they may be without another key player Sunday.  One of this week’s NFL rumors is that star tight end Rob Gronkowski has been limited by an injured hip and it is unknown if he will be able to play Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.  This would be a big blow to a team that needs a win.

The Patriots have been dealt many injuries with key players such as Julian Edelman and Aaron Hernandez already unable to play Sunday.  Now the team known for their extensive use of tight ends may have lost their best one.  When Hernandez got hurt in week two, it forced the Patriots to change their style to a more receiver based system.  If Gronkowski is unable to play Sunday the Patriots will be without an experienced tight end.

The Patriots have four tight ends on their active roster.  If Gronkowski is unable to play Sunday, that will leave the duties to Daniel Fells and Michael Hoomanawanui.  While having Hernandez and Gronkowski possibly absent Sunday will hamper the Patriots offense, it’s worse as it is unknown how much Fells will be able to play.  Fells suffered his own injury during preseason and just got back on the field last week against the Baltimore Ravens.  In that game he only played five plays.

It’s still unknown whether or not Gronkowski will be able to play but one of this week’s NFL rumors is that he won’t. With a hip injury that kept that All-Pro tight end limited in practice, this could be yet another problem for the Patriots.  With a 1-2 record and the season seemingly slipping away, that’s not a problem the Patriots can afford.
