Maybe it’s the fact that the Arizona Cardinals lack a loud superstar, or that they are 30th in the league in rushing, but the media and the rest of the NFL just don’t believe the Cardinals are this good. There are currently three NFL teams that are undefeated at this point of the season. The Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans, and the Cardinals. The Texans and Falcons I can respect. From all offensive angles they seem to have more talent, but when I look at the Power Rankings the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens are ahead of the Cardinals.
How can this be? The Cardinals have had a tougher schedule than both of them. Personally, I think the NFL wants to have the Ravens and the 49ers in the Superbowl because they think the Harbaugh brothers coaching against each other would be a good story. Their not wrong, but completely ignoring a team because the coverage of a game would be easier is plain lazy. The media doesn’t follow the Cardinals as much as other teams because it’s not that easy. The Cardinals don’t have a dynamic WR tandem like Roddy White and Julio Jones, and they don’t have a quarterback that people love like Aaron Rodgers and his “discount double check” celebration.
The Cardinals are boring to the rest of the league. They don’t light it up on offense like the New England Patriots, who they beat, and they don’t have the history of teams like the Dallas Cowboys, 49ers, or Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cardinals do not have a history of winning, but what they do have is a 4-0 record. A record that should give the Cardinals some respect. Yes, top five in the NFL is good, but this is a situation where good is not good enough.
QB Kevin Kolb does not have a huge highlight reel like Michael Vick, but he did play good enough to win. He doesn’t have three Superbowl rings like Tom Brady, but he beat him. The Cardinals are winning because they play better as a team at that given moment. They are doubted because their talent is overlooked, but in the end winning removes all doubt.
