Chiefs Fans to Fly ‘Fire Pioli, Bench Cassel’ Banner Sunday
Apparently, Kansas City Chiefs fans have had enough of the team’s poor play. According to a report by a local Fox affiliate, a group of Chiefs fans have created a ‘We Deserve Better! Fire Pioli, Bench Cassel!’ banner that will fly over Arrowhead Stadium during Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. The plan, which started on a message board, is even costing the fans $100 less than normal price because the guy who runs the billboard towing company agrees with them.
I’ve already gone into plenty of detail about the struggles of quarterback Matt Cassel. He was a great backup to Tom Brady for the New England Patriots, but other than his Pro Bowl 2010 season he has thrown just 31 touchdowns and 32 interceptions. His 6 year, $63 million contract runs for another two seasons after 2012, but all indications are that it’s time to pull the plug on him. He makes more money than Aaron Rodgers and Matt Schaub and hasn’t looked half as good as either of them.
Because Brady Quinn and Ricky Stanzi aren’t the most enticing options to take his job, it may be time for the Chiefs to go quarterback shopping in the 2013 draft.
Which brings us to general manager Scott Pioli. A New England transplant who worked with Bill Belichick, Pioli was supposed to be the guy to turn the Chiefs into the Patriots of the west, and Cassel was his handpicked choice at quarterback.
Although 2010 was considered a good draft for the Chiefs (they got Eric Berry, Tony Moeaki, Dexter McCluster, and Stanzi), his last two drafts have left plenty of people scratching their heads. Drafting project players like Dontari Poe and Jonathan Baldwin in the first round doesn’t usually translate to success, and neither has done much so far.
It’s hard to blame the fans for being upset with the direction of the team. Chiefs fans can remember the days of Trent Green, Joe Montana, and Len Dawson, and Matt Cassel doesn’t hold a candle to any of them. It may be time for Owner Clark Hunt to clean house and rebuild the team once again.

This stat about Lavonte David shows just how amazing he truly is
Next to J.J. Watt, you could make a solid case that Lavonte David is the best defender in the NFL. You won't hear that from the press or ESPN or the fans or the end-of-the-year-award voters, but stats don't lie. And this stat says it all. Read More
