Houston Texans defense primed to dominate New York Jets

By Joe Serenka

Week five of the NFL season matches up the Houston Texans with the New York Jets. The Texans (4-0) are coming off a decisive victory over the Tennessee Titans while the Jets( 2-2) are one week removed from a horrible loss to the San Francisco 49ers where they were held scoreless.

This week will not be any easier for the Jets. Last week they played the 49ers and this week they face the Texans which are considered to be two of  the toughest defenses in the league. The Jets have tried to bring back their identity of ground and pound and have struggled mightily running the ball. Jets starting running back Shonn Greene only rushed for 191 yards in four games with a dismal yards per carry of 2.8. More startling is that 94 of his rushing yards came in week one and he has not rushed for more than 40 in any other week.

The passing attack has not been able to cover the short falls of the running game. After a strong game week one against the Buffalo Bills ,Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has had a disappointing season. In weeks 2 through 4 his completion percentage has been 37,  46.7,  and 44.8 respectively. Since week one Sanchez has only thrown two touchdowns and has added three interceptions. As for the wide receivers rookie Stephen Hill has been held catch-less since week one and missed the 49ers game with an injury. Santonio Holmes has a decent year even though he has only found the end-zone once. However, he will not be able to help the team going forward as a foot injury will keep him out for the remainder of the year.

While the Jets offense is slumping the Texans defense is firing on all cylinders. Defensive end J.J Watt has recorded 7.5 sacks and has 5 deflected passes. Last week against the Titans two defensive backs returned interceptions for scores. The team also picked off Miami Dolphins quarterback three times in the opener. This game is a set up for disaster for the Jets offense. After being absolutely man handled 49ers the Jets hope to get back on track but face a tough challenge against the Texans.
