Former Kansas City Chiefs Star RB Larry Johnson Arrested
In the realm of sad but not surprising news today, it has been discovered that former Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson was arrested on domestic battery charges after he allegedly choked out his girlfriend.
Johnson, who was famous for his wild temper and belligerent behavior while he was in Kansas City, has managed to take himself from the top of the world to about as low as you can go in just about 5 years.
Most Chiefs fans can remember Johnson’s glory days, during which he ran for 1,750 and 1,789 yards in back to back seasons (2005 and 2006). The big back out of Penn State was the team’s star and seemed destined to take them to an elusive playoff win before an injury late in the 2007 season, after which he was never quite the same player.
He nearly eclipsed fan-favorite Priest Holmes‘s all-time franchise rushing record, but he was waived before he could do so. Also known for using gay slurs, insulting fans on Twitter, and trashing his coaches, Johnson’s career ended rather unremarkably with shorts stints with the Washington Redskins, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Miami Dolphins.
If this isn’t a wake-up call for Johnson, there probably won’t be one. Even when he was still in Kansas City, many fans detested him for his attitude and perceived lack of work ethic, but there’s no denying the talent that he had. With Johnson, Holmes, and Jamaal Charles, the Chiefs have had no problem finding great running backs in the last decade, but it’s always sad to see a former star ruin his career with such stupid decisions.
