Colts Coach Chuck Pagano Proud of Team After Win Over Packers
The Indianapolis Colts won big Sunday in Week Five, beating the Green Bay Packers in a huge upset of a victory. The emotion hit the team big after finding out that head coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia.
Indianapolis won this game for their coach, who will be out for the season as his cancer will be treated. After the big win, Colts owner Jim Irsay said he gave the game ball to Pagano.
“In my 40 years in this business, I’ve never been prouder of a team and how they battled back,” Irsay said told NFL.com. “I’ve been in a lot of winning locker rooms, Super Bowl locker rooms, but I’ve never had an experience like this. People talk about money, what the team is worth, those kinds of things, but this was priceless. Absolutely priceless. We walked in, he (Pagano) got up, we all embraced and shed some tears and Chuck said, ‘You know I don’t feel so sick right now.’
“You know, you see things in the movie, but oftentimes, life isn’t as beautiful as they make it out to be. But this went way past that. This was the stuff of movies. This was beautiful. That’s as excited and animated as I’ve seen Chuck. I’ll never forget the look on his face when we walked in with the game ball. We’ll all treasure this moment forever.”
The Colts were able to deliver thanks to big clutch plays on offense by Andrew Luck and Reggie Wayne. The defense was to motivated in the victory that not even the high-powered offense that the Packers run could stop them. The #CHUCKSTRONG campaign continues to roll, and the Colts honed that proudly on Sunday.
Pagano says he was very proud of the team’s victory.
“I am so proud of this team, staff, organization, fans, community, etc. (I) could go on and on,” he told the Indianapolis Star. “I am the luckiest man in the world. I said it when I got this opportunity several months ago and I am repeating it now. The 12th man came through big time along with the TEAM THAT REFUSED TO LOSE.”
Pagano addressed an emotional message to the team before the game, and it must have really hit the whole roster during gameday, as you could see it in their play.
Let’ see if Indianapolis can continue to push this on when they face the New York Jets next week.
