Carson Palmer needs to be more of a leader for the Oakland Raiders
The Oakland Raiders (1-4) are struggling to put together wins early this season. Carson Palmer has to be the one to win games for the Raiders.
Football is a team sport, but the quarterback is the one who has to lead the offense on scoring drives and finish games. Palmer is turning heads with his above average start this NFL season, but he has yet to show that he can be a consistent quarterback that can give the Raiders a good lead.
Palmer has an estimated 63 completion percentage, with a total of 1,434 yards this season. In five games, he only has six touchdowns, three of which were in one game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Raiders need to score more touchdowns, and the blame starts with Palmer. Palmer’s game against the Steelers was the only game in which he scored multiple touchdowns, so that shows the Raiders only win was with Palmer being the biggest offensive threat on the field.
Palmer needs to keep his passing attempts under 40 per game, but he can still be an effective field general moving the ball down the field.
The ground game is not fully running yet (no pun intended), so it is up to Palmer to put the Raiders in the best position possible to win and close out games.
The Raiders will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The Raiders have lost two games in a row, and look to improve their home record which is currently at 1-1. The Jaguars do not have an outstanding defense, so this is Palmer’s chance to prove he can be the leader in Oakland.
