The Minnesota Vikings were defeated by the Washington Redskins this past Sunday, mainly due to the play of star rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III. Griffin ran all over the Vikings, including a game clinching 76-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
This performance left most observers impressed, Vikings fan or not, you had to tip your hat to RG3 on Sunday. Well one guy was not impressed, Jared Allen.
Allen made some comments following the game on his new pal Mr. Griffin:
“I’m not going to crown him anything yet. He had a good game. Hats off to him, he ran really well. But to be great in this league, you have to do it for years and years and years. So, I wish him all the best, except next time when we play him.”
This is not only classic Jared Allen, it’s also the truth. RG3 has been extremely impressive so far in his rookie campaign, there’s absolutely no denying the impact he’s had on his team and the league, but he’s only played six games.
In today’s culture of what have you done for me lately, Griffin is getting a ton of praise. His quarterback stock is right up there with the game’s best, but it’s only been six games.
I’m not going to call RG3 anything this year except maybe Rookie of the Year. He’s got a long way to go before he can truly be considered one of the elite. I think he’s got all the skills to get there, but can his body withstand the punishment?
We’re going to need a lot more than six games to figure that out.
